Different metals require specific welding methods and techniques based on their properties (melting point, thermal conductivity, reactivity, etc.).  

Welding Processes Include

GMAW (MIG)

  • Gas Metal Arc Welding Metal Inert Gas.
  • A welding process that uses a set feed rate to deposit large amounts of weld very quickly.
  • Used often in production welding environments, a very economical method of joining parts

GTAW Pulse (Gas Tungsten arc welding)

  • GTAW (TIG) process in which the heat input "pulsed" going from low heat input to high input over a set frequency.
  • Allows thin metals to be joined with less distortion by managing heat input.

SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding / Stick Welding)

  • Shielded metal arc welding is generally used in remote areas where GMAW or GTAW are impractical. The electrode is a metal cored electrode containing the filler metal, surrounded by coating of flux which helps to prevent oxidation and inclusions from forming in the weld in dirty environments. The welds are strong but often not as esthetically pleasing as other welding processes.

GTAW (TIG)

  • A welding process which uses a tungsten electrode (non-consumable) to initiate an electric arc to the material being welded, a separate filler rod is fed into the weld by hand, allowing greater control of the weld. Produces much nicer looking, more uniform welds but takes significantly longer than GMAW (MIC). Used commonly to weld thin materials, parts which are visible and need to be esthetically pleasing. Also much easier to manage heat input and prevent distortion.
